Supporters of the Grove are building an endowment to help ensure its ongoing care and maintenance. We believe that all government funding designated for HIV/AIDS should be used for direct services. Therefore we continue to rely primarily on private funding, gathering support from individuals, foundations, and corporations to keep our doors open.

Your gift will help fund the monthly Workday program, keep our small office open and responding to inquiries, increase awareness about the Grove, and handle day-to-day business. Most importantly, it will continue building the endowment so that the Grove will be maintained in perpetuity. Find out how you can be a part of this country’s only official national memorial site honoring all those whose lives have been touched by AIDS
There are many ways to give to the National AIDS Memorial Grove. Donations are received in memory of or in honor of loved ones. Others contribute by becoming Workday sponsors. The Grove’s Ensure Remembrance Campaign provides gift and recognition opportunities for individuals, corporations and organizations helping to finish site improvements or to reach the endowment goal for the perpetual care of the Grove.

Planned Giving

Legacy gifts represent a special way to provide long term support for the National AIDS Memorial Grove. By including the Grove in your will, living trust, retirement plan and life insurance beneficiary designations, or other types of legacy gifts, you help ensure that the Grove will always be here as a place of hope and remembrance beyond your own lifetime.

The easiest and most common type of planned gift is naming the National AIDS Memorial Grove in your will as a bequest provision. Using this method you may specify an asset, an amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or a variety of other designations. Other types of planned gifts include direct gifts of securities, life insurance policies, IRAs, or real estate that can benefit the Grove and also serve the needs of the giver.

Because there are so many ways build charitable giving into an estate plan, it is always best to seek professional advice from your lawyer, financial advisor, or a professional estate planner. To begin any planned gift, think of all the people to whom you are close, as well as organizations such as the Grove that you would like to support, and determine what you would like to provide for each. Then, when you visit a professional estate planner or other advisor, they will help you accomplish your goals by utilizing the best techniques to comply with the laws and to reduce taxes.

Legacy gifts to the Grove offer a way for you to achieve your financial and philanthropic objectives while leaving a legacy for the future by making certain that the years of work spent creating this special place in nature and the people that are honored here will not be forgotten.

Workday Sponsorships

On the third Saturday of each month from March through October, volunteers help with the work of creating and maintaining the Grove. Between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., individuals and groups of volunteers participate in gardening activities: clearing weeds and debris, mulching and hauling topsoil, planting new trees and shrubs, and other related activities within the Grove. Participants pause at noon for “Circle time,” when Workday Sponsors and Workday Volunteer groups are recognized and invited to speak, if desired.

Workdays provide the primary means of renovating the Grove and are a special time of hope and renewal. Many find they are an opportunity to pay tribute to friends and loved ones lost to AIDS, also providing a positive focus for all those touched by the pandemic in coping and dealing with their emotions.

Workday Sponsors(see volunteer opportunities)
Workday sponsors provide an important source of revenue as well as volunteer labor for the Grove.

The sponsorship contribution levels are as follows:

  • Individual & Memorial Sponsorships — $100
  • Corporate Sponsorships (Based on the number of participants anticipated) — $250 to $750
  • All donations are tax-deductible.

A commitment of 10 or more volunteers is encouraged for sponsoring a Workday. Sponsors receive a certificate acknowledging their valued contribution.

To schedule your group’s sponsorship of a workday, call 415-765-0497.

Sponsorship checks can be brought to the Workday or sent to the Grove at P.O. Box 2270, San Francisco, CA 94126-2270.

Crescents

In addition to individual names inscribed in the Circle of Friends, there is another way to honor or remember someone in the Grove’s Dogwood Crescent—The Crescents.

The Crescents are adjacent to and on the outer rim of the Circle of Friends. The three Crescent opportunities, in addition to being engraved in larger letters than the Circle of Friends (which are 1-1/8″ high), allow for personalized inscriptions of up to 50 characters in length:

Crescent of Healing — $5,000 donation (letters are 1-1/4″ tall)
Crescent of Hope — $10,000 donation (letters are 1-3/8″ tall)
Crescent of Remembrance — $25,000 donation (letters are 1-1/2″ tall)

This donor opportunity allows for a few words or a short phrase to be inscribed honoring or remembering someone, while also offering greater visibility than the Circle of Friends.

For more information, call the office at 415-765-0497.
