Dear Friends of the Grove,
This past weekend, over 125 volunteers showed up on a beautiful, hot sunny day to pull weeds, transport and spread two large loads of mulch, scrub hardscape features and cut overgrown plant materials throughout the Grove. Since the first workday twenty-four years ago, over 150,000 volunteer hours of labor have been selflessly donated. Without such dedicated volunteers, we simply wouldn’t be able to maintain the Grove to a standard befitting of a national memorial, one dedicated to so many of our lost loved ones, and to all lives touched by AIDS around the nation.
After three years of loyal generosity, and following its merger with Albertsons, The Safeway Foundation was unable to return as our annual $10,000 Community Volunteer Workday Presenting Sponsor. To date, we have been able to fill half of the funding gap, and are reaching to you as a loyal supporter of the Grove to
help us fill the remaining $5,000 shortfall. Your support will help provide such things as volunteer meals, beverages, trees and plant materials, tools, rental equipment, and many other necessary gardening supplies. As thousands of volunteers have supported this program with their hard work, we ask you to consider making a donation in their honor, or in memory of those we have lost.
The support of our donors and volunteers ensures that this national treasure will exist in perpetuity for all who seek hope, healing and remembrance, and I thank you in advance for your contribution in support of the Community Volunteer Workday Program.
