How do I qualify for the Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship?
Proven leadership skills, community involvement, personal merit and the desire to make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Are community college students eligible to apply?
Yes. Scholarship funds can be used for tuition and expenses related to any accredited 2 or 4 year undergraduate program.
If I am a high school senior and do not know where I will be attending college, can I still apply?
Yes. You do not need to be enrolled or accepted to a particular school at the time of your application. After you have enrolled, you will be requested to provide tuition documentation, at which time we will release funds.
Do I need to be HIV+ to apply?
No. Both HIV+ and HIV− students are welcome to apply for the scholarship.
Do I need to identify within the LGBTQ community to apply?
No. The evaluation of applicants doesn’t consider sexual orientation.
Is the scholarship only awarded to applicants from a specific region of the country or is it national in scope?
This scholarship is open to students who study or reside in all 50 states.
If I apply and am not selected as a Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholar, may I reapply?
Yes. Both prior applicants and scholarship recipients are encouraged to reapply.
Can scholarship money be used on other related school expenses?
Yes. Scholarship can be put towards books or other related school expenses.
If I am planning to complete my degree through an online program, am I eligible to apply?
Yes. As long as applicant meets program requirements and demonstrates leadership and community involvement.
If I am chosen as a Pedro Zamora Scholar, when should I anticipate receiving my scholarship award?
Scholarship announcements are structured to be announced and awarded at the end of June.
