Grove Workdays
On the third Saturday of each month from March through October, volunteers help with the work of creating and maintaining the Grove.
2010 Community Volunteer Workdays
- March 20 July 17
- April 17 August 21
- May 15 September 18
- June 19 October 16
We ask all volunteers to show up between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. to register and sign in, as we begin our tasks promptly at 9:00 a.m. All volunteers must sign a release of liability waiver prior to volunteering in the Grove. You may download these from our website. Have your parent or guardian sign the release form in advance if you are under 18, and then bring the signed form with you to the registration table where you will receive a name tag. If your parent or guardian is dropping you off at the Workday, they may sign your form at that time. All attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by adult supervisors at a ratio of one adult for every 10 kids.
If you are over 18, you may download the form and sign for yourself. Doing this in advance helps speed along the registration process since we may have 200 volunteers at any particular Volunteer Day.
Between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., individuals and groups of volunteers participate in gardening activities: clearing weeds and debris, mulching and hauling topsoil, planting new trees and shrubs, and other related activities. Participants pause at noon for “Healing Circle,” when Community Volunteer Workday sponsors and groups are recognized and invited to speak (not obligatory). View a list of past volunteer groups.
Community Volunteer Workdays provide the primary means of renovating the Grove and are a special time of hope and renewal. Many find they are an opportunity to pay tribute to friends and loved ones lost to AIDS, also providing a positive focus for all those touched by the pandemic, and struggling to deal with their emotions.
Community Volunteer Workday Sponsors
Community Volunteer Workday sponsors provide an important source of revenue, as well as volunteer labor for the Grove. View a list of past Community Volunteer Workday sponsors.
The sponsorship contribution levels are as follows:
- Individual & Memorial Sponsorships — $100
- Corporate Sponsorships (Based on the number of participants anticipated) – $250 to $750
All donations are tax-deductible.
A commitment of 10 or more volunteers is encouraged for sponsoring a Volunteer Day. Sponsors receive a certificate acknowledging their valued contribution. Sponsorship checks can be brought to the Community Volunteer Workday or sent to the Grove office at P.O. Box 2270, San Francisco, CA 94126-2270.
Please call the Grove office to let us know if you plan to attend 415-765-0497.
All volunteers must sign a release of liability waiver prior to volunteering in the Grove.
