Chevron & the
National AIDS Memorial

Chevron is committed to supporting the health and well-being of its workforce and the communities in which it operates by investing in a diverse mix of community partnerships to combat disease threats. Through various partnerships, Chevron supports programs aimed at strengthening health systems, improving health equity and security, and empowering sustainable interventions to prevent disease in both the workplace and communities.

Chevron collaborates with global, national, and local organizations to raise awareness and promote wellness.

Below are examples of quilts that Chevron employees and retirees have designed and developed that are held and displayed at multiple Chevron locations. Each quilt has its own story, and the themes have evolved throughout the years – just as the response has through new medical interventions, science and technology.

2019 | Zero
The 2019 Chevron global AIDS quilt, with its circular design, symbolizes the unified vision of achieving zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths. It celebrates partnerships with organizations working toward this goal and highlights the global initiative's efforts, including remembrance, research, and support services. Through ongoing focus and education, the vision of “Getting to Zero” is within reach.
2020 | Resilience
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 brought unprecedented challenges, disrupting lives and healthcare systems worldwide. “Resilience” became essential in managing the many public health challenges that were amplified during the COVID pandemic. Resilience, exemplified by the ability of individuals and communities to unite and adapt, serves as a powerful inspiration for creating positive change amid adversity.
2022 | Inclusion
The theme of “Inclusion” supports Chevron’s commitment to core values that include diversity and inclusion. The quilt emphasized that inclusion in the context of health means equal access to care and services, partnering with entities to address potential gaps in health, including community members and communities most impacted by those gaps.
2023 | Health is a Human Right
The 2023, World AIDS Day quilt theme of "Health is a Human Right" was developed to remind us of the importance of equitable access to healthcare for all individuals. This theme underscored the belief that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the right to achieve their full health potential. It emphasized the need for equitable, affordable, and culturally appropriate access to quality care and services, ensuring that these services can be accessed with dignity, free of discrimination, and without stigma.
2024 | Together We Can, Together We Will
Unveiled at Chevron’s annual World AIDS Day event in San Ramon, this quilt’s theme, "Together We Can, Together We Will", was designed to share the message of unity and collective action in the fight against HIV/AIDS and related health threats. The theme also emphasized the importance of collaboration, partnership, and community involvement.

Since the mid-1980s, Chevron has been a leader in the global fight against HIV/AIDS, joining other U.S. companies to promote education and reduce workplace stigma. In 2005, Chevron launched an enterprise-wide HIV/AIDS policy -- the first of its kind in the energy industry-- addressing harassment, benefits, pre-employment HIV testing, and treatment, ensuring a non-discriminatory workplace that honors confidentiality.

Since 2016, Chevron has partnered with the National AIDS Memorial by supporting its efforts to educate, reduce stigma, and add

The Memorial is the steward of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, a powerful symbol that continues to educate through its history, stories, and programs. In support of the AIDS Quilt and searching for its own tool to increase awareness, Chevron’s Health & Medical team began reaching out to employees and retirees, asking for volunteers to create a collection of Quilt panels. The initial intent was to educate, provide a place for remembrance, and offer a space for social connection.

In 1993, a group of Chevron volunteer quilters in the San Francisco Bay Area started making two Quilt blocks to commemorate Chevron employees who lost their lives to AIDS. The first Chevron Quilt block was submitted to the NAMES Project Foundation to be part of the AIDS Quilt, and to date, there are two Chevron blocks in the AIDS Quilt. This Chevron initiative continued in the workplace, and since the early 2000’s, employees and retirees from around the globe have made a quilt most years, unveiled at Chevron’s World AIDS Day events.

The HIV/AIDS crisis, however, still impacts tens of thousands of Americans each year. Chevron is proud to maintain its commitment to raising awareness and fighting stigma for a future free of HIV/AIDS.
