The 8th annual Light in the Grove was held on November 30th. More than 600 guests experienced a moving candlelight reflection in the Circle of Friends, then walked through the spectacularly-lit Redwood Grove to a warmly-lit tent for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a buffet dinner with special musical and artistic performances. The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day events was ‘Bending the Arc Toward Justice,’ capturing the spirit of hope, determination, and resistance that has been at the foundation of the National AIDS Memorial and our community’s response to AIDS since the beginning. Former Senator Mark Leno, a tireless champion for civil rights, the LGBT community, and HIV/AIDS organizations, received the ‘Lifetime of Commitment’ Award. Monies raised help to maintain this breathtaking memorial and ensure that the story and lessons of AIDS will be available for the benefit of future generations, and the countless lives lost never be forgotten.
