Display Hosts: Spencer Pride • Indiana Chapter of The AIDS Memorial Quilt
Display Host: Spencer Pride - Established in 2007, Spencer Pride is focused on making Indiana a more welcoming place for ALL people – including those individuals who identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Spencer Pride hosts an annual Pride Festival, operates a large LGBTQ+ center in its small town, & is the home of Iris (a group for teens ages 12 -19). We are a 100% volunteer-powered organization. In 2019, Spencer Pride hosted part of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in honor of World AIDS Day, bringing a panel to Owen County, Indiana, for the first time. We are proud to once again host a (virtual) display in 2020 thanks, in part, to Boston Scientific Corporation. This year’s display includes panels with special connections to our local community.
Display Host: Indiana Chapter of The AIDS Memorial Quilt - The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis (THFGI) is a private foundation whose top funding priority is the fight against HIV/AIDS. Since being formed in 1985, THFGI has granted over $30 million in support of projects and organizations for HIV care and prevention services. In addition to financial support, THFGI focuses on being a community unifier. We do so not only by encouraging collaboration amongst service providers but also by mindfully conserving the history of the local efforts to address the HIV epidemic in our community. It is a great honor to have the opportunity to educate others about the significance of the Quilt as we serve as the Indiana Chapter for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. This year, we virtually highlight 8 blocks of the Quilt that contain panels representing the lives of numerous Hoosiers who succumbed to complications of HIV/AIDS. We pay homage to these individuals and the many lives lost with commitment to continue our efforts to seek an end to the HIV epidemic.
